New Experimental Game Build: 1.108 Pre-Alpha

Heyo and salutations, Everyone!

Sorry if it’s been a while since I last updated the game. Chapter 10 took a bit longer than I expected to develop since I wanted to rewrite certain parts of it to be longer and (hopefully), more emotionally impactful. I’m planning for Chapter 11 to be of a similar size and to come out in November, December, or February, as Fallen Snow Studios, the development team behind ACTUAL Lucid9, is planning to launch their Kickstarter campaign in January of 2023, and I’d like to use my fangame that’s based on their work to help spread the word about it during the holiday season.

As I’ve likely said before, Lucid9 is vastly superior to this fangame, and if you didn’t already play it before EL9FG, I’d 100% recommend checking it out. Echoes is missing a lot of context that can only be found in the official game, and It’s a personal favorite of mine developed by some very cool people. ^w^

Version 1.108 Pre-Alpha of the game adds new narrative content, mostly in the form of Chapter 10, where the commander of the Lucid Cell summons Rui to talk about some very serious business and requests that she go into District 2 and buy snacks for a ‘party’ she has planned.

Once inside District 2, I’ve added a skeletal, barely functional version of a fast travel/hubworld system to remind myself to finish it later, and a rather spirited broadcast from the National News Network (NNN). While the Isamu Meritocracy tells the public that it’s their state-owned media service, it’s technically owned by Lemniscate, so, uh… whoops, I guess. They might need to fix that.

I’d like to disclaim that that particular broadcast has a lot of sensitive (fictional) political content that is intended to be satirical in nature, rather than aspirational. Its purpose is largely for world-building, and it’s not intended to make any kind of real-life statement. There’s also a few loud noises, jumpscares, and flashing lights in this chapter, because I wanted to make parts of it as unnerving as possible.

The remainder of Chapter 10: When Life Gives You Yamas focuses largely on interactions between Rui and Yama, and is divided into two routes, accessible from one traditional “good” path, and one traditional “evil” path. In the former, I attempted to emulate the style of the official game by including both kinds of SoL, being Slice of Life, as well as S*** Out of Luck, in order to show plenty of good times before piling on the bad. There’s also no H-scene in it, so I’d like to apologize if you were looking forward to something like that. I have, however, included the “3D models” of all of this game’s female characters in the game’s ‘game/secrets’ folder, and I encourage you to do with those what you will.

The other, more evil path will mark the return of Yama, but with a new, darker side of him obtaining dominance in his mind. There’s little I can say without spoiling anything, but if you liked the bad endings in Lucid9 where the UI turns black, I made this this path for you and I hope you like it.

There are also two files in the “game/secrets” folder that contain some revelations for anyone interested in looking into them, but as with everything in that folder, some spoilers may follow…

As always, I’ve included some screenshots of the new chapter below, and thanks again for the support ^w^
